On August 9, PCM held its summer blood drive (keep us in mind for the next PCM drive, planned for the 2nd Sunday of January, 2016). Thanks to all those who signed up to volunteer and to donate! Particular thanks to Carole Geist's grandson Justin, Mary McClean, Rita Wright, the Bremer family, Winnie Pinch, and Tenia Wagner for helping staff the table, providing food, and generally helping out Congratulations to Loren Ilg for getting his first blood drive as coordinator under his belt. And a special shout to Dr. RK for helping Mike figure out how to disassemble the Fellowship Hall tables--in addition to donating double reds.
We had a good turnout, with 35 sign-ups and a number of walk-ins, but due to some unexpected deferrals, we only collected 30 units. (Red Cross's criteria for deferral need re-evaluation: is there any good reason to continue deferring people who were in Europe in the 1980's, for just one example?) Another problem is a lack of young folks at the blood drive; I think there were only 2 or 3 folks younger than 30 who signed up, and their blood, scientifically, is by far the most helpful to patients who need blood.
Thanks again to all who participated and donated!
