What were you doing on February 2nd? A large number of caring PCMites were enjoying a variety of soups and supporting efforts to fight hunger in our state through the Souper Bowl of Caring. The Youth Group send their heartfelt thanks to those who prepared the soups, set up &/or cleaned up the Fellowship Hall and those who donated money. The final count was $1,287.35! (I believe that’s the highest amount raised in the history of PCM.) The youth have designated Food Bank of the Heartland (the lion's share) and Crossroads Connection Prison Ministry as the mission partners who will receive the funds.
Speaking of Crossroads, our Mission Partner and Hunger Ministry Partner for March is Crossroads Connection Prison Ministries. Many inmates are released from prison with the clothes they are wear-ing, minimal financial resources, and limited contacts with positive influences on the outside. Crossroads helps folks with the transition by creating a community of faith and support through a weekly worship service and fellowship meal for work release inmates, those newly released, and their fami-lies and friends. Crossroads also provides Project LIFE, Living In Freedom Eternally, which offers safe transitional housing, weekly counseling, and ongoing mentoring for budgeting, employment assistance, transportation, and other assistance for those newly released.
PCM supports Crossroads mission & ministry in several ways: PCM helps lead worship and provides the fellowship meal after worship a few times each year. We also supports Crossroads with a financial pledge each year and the PCM bus transports an average of 20 work release inmates from the work release center each week to worship at Underwood Hills Presbyterian Church. Part of Crossroads’ program includes a pantry that offers food support for newly released inmates and families of current and newly released inmates. This month, your Hunger Ministry offering will be earmarked for the Crossroads Pantry. Please write “Hunger” on your check or on the envelope in the friendship register and place you donation in the offering plate. You can give any Sunday this month. Learn more about Crossroads on the Mission Partner bulletin board in the Commons this month or check out their NEW website at www.CrossroadsConnectionNE.org
Calling all blood donors—the next drive will be held on March 9th from 9:30AM - 2:30PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. The harshness of the weather in the eastern states has caused a critical shortage of blood nationally. Members of Holy Cross have offered significant support when the drives have been held at PCM. If you are able, we ask that you return that support in kind. Holy Cross is located at 4117 Terrace Drive. Directions: Head west on Corby to 108th St, then right on N. 108th to Maple, then right onto W Maple Rd. Go east 0.8 miles then left onto Maplewood Blvd. Continue north on Maplewood Blvd. 0.3 miles, then turn left onto Terrace Drive. Continue 0.5 miles on Terrace; you’ll see Holy Cross on the right.
Thank you for your continued support of Crossroads Connection and the Red Cross.
