"For the enlightenment of new members, and of the members who have recently joined us from Benson Presbyterian, PCM several years ago banded together with two other churches, Maplewood United Methodist and Holy Cross Lutheran, to provide the Red Cross a year-round cycle of blood drives. (The next one will be held at PCM on August 9 in Fellowship Hall.)
"The latest blood drive at Maplewood UMC on June 7 did not do very well. There were about 21 people signed up to donate (for comparison, PCM usually has around 40), and of those 21 at least 8 were either unable to donate or were no-shows, which means Red Cross got 13 units of usable blood. For the Red Cross, that level of participation is unsustainable. There were a lot of factors, including Benson's last service, and that both Holy Cross and MUMC like to start their drives at 9:30, that made PCM's full participation quite difficult, but can we point toward our drive on August 9 as a 'must attend' if we're to keep this blood drive cycle going?"
