Deacons

Lazy days of summer?!?! Not for the Deacons! We have been busy little bees! Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies. Our little yellow bus was overflowing with items used to fill backpacks to help kids start off their school year on the right track! The Greeting Card Ministry continues to be popular! Check out the new supply of Halloween and Thanksgiving cards available in the Communication Center.  These cards are a great way to send a note letting someone know you are thinking about them. If you are interested in helping make the cards, contact Julie Binderup. Sunday Donuts were a great time of fellowship for members after the single service in the summer. Thank you to the various groups who hosted the Donuts in the Communication Center.  After Labor Day when we go back to two services, we will continue to offer fellowship with cookies and coffee after the second service. If you are interested in sharing your baking talents by donating cookies, please contact Mary McClean. Deacons continue to minister and support the congregation. Fourth of July treats were made and delivered to home bound members and those needing a little TLC. If you know of a member who needs a little bit of 'Deacon TLC', contact Cliff Buckingham or any of the Deacons. Laura Schonlau

Deacons met Tuesday night, October 14, and were honored to be greeted by Margo Forsythe and some of her ESL students.  They served the Deacons homemade apple pie!  The ESL students have been so appreciative of the ways that PCM supports and encourages them; the apple pie was a way of saying thanks to the congregation for the school supplies.

Rainbow House: Are you familiar with Carolyn Scott Rainbow House?  Rainbow House accommodations include kitchen, dining, laundry facilities, a library, family and living rooms, a play room, and bedrooms.  The facility is available for families of children whoare receiving treatment and care at Children’s Hospital and who live more than 60 miles away.    Each month PCM provides the ingredients, and PCM members cook the meal for the Rainbow House residents.  The cooks have a nice fellowship time together, and have an opportunity to meet a few of the Rainbow House guests in the process.  Be sure to check the sign-up sheet in the Communication Center.  Greeting Cards: Deacons are sponsoring a new ministry: greeting cards will be available to purchase in the Commons or the Communication center.  Artistic, crafty, talented people will be creating cards on the second and fourth Monday of each month, and the cards will be sold at cost, so the card-making supplies can be replenished.

Deacons Congregational Care

The Deacons are helping with the Congregational Dinner on May 4.  Please be sure to support the Mission Trip with your presence and with your monetary presents.  Additional information is available in the article on Page 7. May 11 is Mother's Day, and the Deacons will provide a small gift to be delivered to the homebound mothers of the church.  If you know of one of our members who would like to be remembered, please contact the church office or Deb Burg.  Look for the bouquet of flowers with homebound names and addresses if you would like to make a delivery. The Deacons provide meals in containers for you to take home and enjoy, or for you to take home and share with a friend. March and April Meal Marts offered soups, but upcoming Meal Marts will expand the selections to other kinds of meals.  A free will donation is suggested to continue the ministry.  Thank you to the Deacons who provided the excellent soups and banana bread.  The next Meal Mart will be held on May 11. Rainbow House is an ongoing ministry of the Board of Deacons.  On the first Monday of each month dinner is prepared for the people who are staying at Rainbow House.  The congregation is encouraged to support this ministry through food donations and by helping prepare the meals at the Rainbow House kitchen.  Menus are posted in the communication center.  Long term illness or confinement can make meal preparation difficult.  For generations Christians have helped each other with food preparation, or delivered a casserole and a loaf of baked bread to support families in crisis.  At PCM, Mealtrain.com is used to manage meal deliveries.  Meal preferences, delivery times food allergies, frequencies and contact information are individualized for each Mealtrain.  Please contact the church office or Deb Burg if meal deliveries would be helpful for someone you know at PCM. Each month Deacons support PCM members through cards, greetings, phone  calls, visits, and building a sense of community.  If you have suggestions for Deacons, please contact Deb Burg. Thank you to all of the PCM members who delivered live Easter lilies from the sanctuary the week following Easter.   During the Easter Brunch the Deacons provided names and addresses of homebound PCM members so that the plants would brighten their day.   The 2014 Board of Deacons includes: Brittany Andersen, Maurine Beason, Bob Benson, Julie Binderup, Cliff Buckingham, Angela Burg, Debra Burg, Colleen Collins, Joan Edwards, Marge Finch, Mason Finch, Mike Forsythe, Diane Frans, Cathy Heitmann, Loren Ilg, Lynne Ilg, Mary McClean, Winnie Pinch, Laraine Roberts, Emily Struebing, Sandra Wolff.

Visits are Precious

The journey for the Rodgers family is long. One way that each of us can support them is by taking a few minutes to visit Rod. Deacons are setting up a schedule so that PCM visits Rod in a regular pattern. If you are interested in being added to the list of visitors, please contact Deb Burg 402 575.1711 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Meal Mart

Would you appreciate a donated, home-cooked meal?  Beginning on March 2, the Deacons will be sponsoring a MEAL MART on the first Sunday of the month.  On March 2 soups will be available in two-cup or one-quart containers, cooked and ready to take home for your family or for someone who you know who would appreciate the attention.  In the same spirit as the Garden Mart, you are welcome to make a free-will donation to support the ministry.  Leftover soups will be frozen at the church and will be available for pickup during the month.
