ACE Puppets

We had a lovely little puppet show in Newton, IA. for about 30 individuals at the Willowbrook Care Facility where the residents go for fun and activity during the day. They made a very enthusiastic audience.  Calling    Volunteers   for HELP !!!!!!!! A.C.E.  Puppet Troupe Prop Making Work Dates SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4th and SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5thSaturday, Oct 4th   10:00 - 12:00  / snacks providedSunday,Oct  5th after second service  /  lunch provided SIGN UP FOR ONE DAY OR  BOTH !!!!!!!! Calling  ALL  hands at PCM to assist your puppet troupe in preparing for the great new shows on SUNDAY, NOV 9th.  At the National Puppet Ministry conference, we learned that many troupes  hold workshops where their congregations help with painting, gluing, cutting, sewing, nailing, and building, everything that is involved in preparing for a big production.  We will have many projects to work on together, so you can pick your area of interest and dive in.  Watch for sign up sheets where you can let us know where you would like  to assist.

Sympathy

Sympathy to Ethel Walling’s family and Remembering a PCM-ite. Ethel Walling, our oldest member, died June 24 at the age of 107 years. She was short 21 days of celebrating her 108th birthday on July 15. She had been a member of PCM since 1966 and until she fell and broke a hip several years ago she attended church regularly. She was a remarkable woman—she lived alone in a condo—drove until 100—refused to move into a retirement or assisted living center and she cooked all her meals. Would you believe three weeks before her death she made a lemon pie “from scratch.” She was always asking about what was going at PCM and, although she didn’t attend church, she was very interested in all of our “happenings.” A beautiful memorial service was held on Saturday morning, July 19th at the church with both of our pastors officiating, followed by a lunch. Burial of her ashes were later in the day at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Deacons Congregational Care

Rainbow House: Are you familiar with Carolyn Scott Rainbow House?  Rainbow House accommodations include kitchen, dining, laundry facilities, a library, family and living rooms, a play room, and bedrooms.  The facility is available for families of children whoare receiving treatment and care at Children’s Hospital and who live more than 60 miles away.    Each month PCM provides the ingredients, and PCM members cook the meal for the Rainbow House residents.  The cooks have a nice fellowship time together, and have an opportunity to meet a few of the Rainbow House guests in the process.  Be sure to check the sign-up sheet in the Communication Center.  Greeting Cards: Deacons are sponsoring a new ministry: greeting cards will be available to purchase in the Commons or the Communication center.  Artistic, crafty, talented people will be creating cards on the second and fourth Monday of each month, and the cards will be sold at cost, so the card-making supplies can be replenished.
