The annual PW Christmas Gathering is Saturday, December 7 with a lunch at 12 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall followed by a Christmas program in the Sanctuary. Our speaker will be Rev. Sara Dingman-Lavigne, Interim Presbyter of the Presbytery of Missouri River Valley.
During this Christmas season, we spend money on our families and on our celebrations, and we dig deep to fulfill our end-of-year financial obligations, and still share our bounty. Our joy in giving has us dropping coins in red buckets, giving books for angel trees, or buying mittens or socks for charity.
What an exciting journey this year has been for Mr. Buey Tut and Aqua-Africa. Mr. Tut came to PCM last year and shared his vision and reality of building wells in South Sudan, his homeland. In 2013, Aqua-Africa has embraced new partners in building wells, such as Water for South Sudan. Aqua-Africa also selected to dig wells in two new locations in South Sudan, and helped with an ambitious project -- developing a water distribution system that is expected to enable a village of 5,000 people to access clean water. Now THAT is a mission project!
You are invited to the dedication of the new office for Habitat at 1701 North 24thStreet. They will be celebrating and dedicating it on December 5thfrom 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. A tour and appetizers will be offered. Join them in this celebration.
What can we give Jesus for Christmas? How about giving of your time to help those in need? How about getting on the bus and singing and laughing and sharing the season with others from PCM?
At the October 27th Called Congregational Meeting, the congregation voted to make a change to PCM’s Bylaws. This change brings PCM’s Bylaws in line with the PC(USA) Book of Order, which provides for the Session to appoint its own Clerk for a term suitable to the Session.
At the October 27th Called Congregational Meeting, the congregation elected officers to the Board of Deacons and to the Session. Officers are elected to “Classes,” which is the last year of their term.
As this is written, we are one week into the 2014 Giving Campaign. Thank you to all who have turned in pledge cards and Time & Talent sheets. If you have not turned in a card or sheet, it is not too late! All of PCM’s programs, salaries, etc. are funded from pledges. This year’s theme asked us to share and be generous with all the different gifts we’ve been given. No gift is “too small.” Together we can grow and build on what we do and what makes PCM uniquely PCM. Pledges may be paid in the way that best suits your lifestyle: check or cash in offering trays on Sunday, auto pay (get an authorization form from the office), by using your bank’s bill pay service, or just mail your check to church.
Each year on the Sunday before Christmas, Presbyterian congregations have the opportunity to express our appreciation to our clergy by receiving the Christmas Joy Offering. We honor our church leaders both for theri faithfulness in tending to our spiritual needs and in recognition of their decision to answer the call to ministry. The Christmas Joy Offering provides a way to give thanks and much-needed support to active and retired church workers and their families who are struggling with urgent financial needs. Please consider a donation during this season of giving.
