A Few Thoughts on Abortion

Posted by Jerry Magner in Jerrys Blog

Jerry

Having missed the discussion at church today on the topic of abortion, I thought I would write a few of my random thoughts in a blog for the web page.

In general, I am against abortion.  Does that mean there should be an absolute ban on abortion?  No, there should not.  This is not a black and white issue, and there may be times when abortion is appropriate, but they are very few.   I think that

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 9

Posted by Brad Wendel in Untagged

In case you hadn't already heard, we made it home on schedule around 5 PM tonight.  I wish I could say I was surprised to find Omaha almost as hot and humid as the New Orleans we'd left behind ...

I think it's safe to say we were all very happy to get off the vus.  It's a great ride and beats any 15-passenger van out there, but after 18 hours you'd kill for any other car in the world.  Of course,

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 7-8

DATELINE NEW ORLEANS - Contrary to rumors, we are in fact going to leave New Orleans today.  Yesterday, while shuttling the volunteers from Nebraska and North Carolina between the 4 houses our group worked on, the vus suddenly stopped running on Elysian Fields.  John and Larry had the vus towed to a local Ford dealership who pronounced the diagnosis as a failed ignition coil.  As I write this, it

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 6

Well, it's been a long and productive Day 6 here in New Orleans East. Today, all of the groups worked long and hard to try to complete as much as possible before we leave on Saturday. We worked so hard I'm sitting all alone in the Olive Tree Village Dining Hall while everyone has headed to bed. Each of our homes are so much closer to being ready for the residents to move in, we can't help but get

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 5

Day 5 was definitely the day we all hit a wall. You can see the difference in the energy at the beginning of the day from Monday to today. It took us quite a bit longer to get through breakfast, our chores and get out to the prayer circle to hit the work. Of course, once we got to our sites, we were ready to go! We've been working at the same site for the past three days, and we can see so much

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 4

Day 4 of the Mission Trip was another day of work. It was a bit short because the Nebraska-North Carolina contingent were heading into the French Quarter (which also explains why this blog is so late). Not too many work highlights from the day...

- Doug and Ed's group starting laying down tile and floor having conquered the leveling of the concrete floors.

- Adam really enjoyed "destroying lots of

Today was our first day of work. The ladies got an early start at 5:45 to fix the Village biscuits and gravy.  Turns out they hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, but they're still going strong tonight!  The weather report for the week shows 90-100 degree weather, the heat index well above 100 and no rain in sight.

We were given an orientation this morning by "Project Homecoming," a program

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 2

We are here at Olive Tree Village in New Orleans safe and sound.  After the thunderstorm this morning, we had a sunny day as we followed the same highway into town.  For those of you who travelled these bridges and highways in the past, you'd be amazed by the newer look at all the houses and buildings on each side of the highway.  New roofs can be seen throughout each neighborhood, and fresh

New Orleans Mission Trip - Day 1

It was a beautiful day for a drive through the midwest.  We left the church at 7:00 with Dorothy Norton's sugar cookies, the Sheltons' good wishes and a vus full of excited people.  We all settled in with our books and our headphones and enjoyed a relaxing drive down to Memphis.  We made it to a rest area just south of St. Louis when someone (we won't menton who) left the vus running with the air
